Default FileFront saved at the last second by FileFront!

Well uh... this is kind of a surprise haha, but thankfully it clears up the confusion we've been having since yesterday.

Apparently, just before Ziff Davis officially shut down the service, the original owners of FileFront swooped in and bought the site back off them!

So what this means is, although Ziff Davis is now totally out of the picture, FileFront will indeed continue and at the moment is in the middle of returning to normal operations.

I'm very happy to hear this. If it had indeed gone down, we would have lost much more than what we could have saved.

At the same time, I'm also a little sad as it means the time and resources we put into bringing our replacement community site online has been rendered moot. Ah well... I guess there's always next time.

So there you have it guys! Get back to it!

Game on!

You said it! Money was spent too.

It might be still possible to spawn a second download site for the star trek games... Look at other games they have **** tons of game related download sites. Why should Star Trek games not have this. Plus if anything like this ever happened again it wouldn't be such a big deal.

I don't know just trying to justify the time spent into starting it already.

On another note im glad the rest of the file sites will still live on!

Haha yeah.... that's true. Thankfully it wasn't toooo much... and thankfully either way, it's possible not to waste.

Yeah I'm actually thinking about that now. If (When?) FileFront ever goes down, what would that spell out for games like EF... in which that site is the veritable backbone of said game?

Hahah yeah... maybe sometime I might stick up the mockup design of the new site I was making up here for lolz.
Also, judging by how much cursing and swearing you were doing at the code snippets of the system you saw, maybe you should offer FF your PHP skillz to pimp out the system...?

Either way, The Guardian has now apparently also put up an article on what happened to FileFront... the risks of cloud computing as a whole.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...ng-online-data

I also mention this because there is a quote from a certain UberGames developer in there as well haha.

But what about UberGames's effort to create a EFfiles.com-like website ?? Is that going to continue or that dead already ??

There isn't much point to it for now, and there are issues of ownership all over again.

I don't see the point in fracturing the community, although we could store the effiles backup for the future.

I would be glad to continue working on a second download site for Star Trek based games. Not as much as a replacement to effiles or the others but an addition to it or fail over. Plus a much more modern and improved look

Take a deep breath after the collective heart attack you all suffered this past week. I look froward to seeing the great maps that you guys make.

I forgot that Ziff Davis is not the original owner of FileFront.

It is not uncommon for somebody to "buy" back the company and bring it back to life again.
