1. What is Elite Force: RPG-X?
RPG-X is a near total conversion scale modification for the game Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force.
Its main purpose is to remove the first-person shooter elements of the game and turn it into an immersive
environment where players can act out their own Star Trek oriented scenarios.
2. What do you do in it?
The mod is primarily multiplayer only (you COULD do single, but it would be very boring!). meant to played online. Upon joining a server, you are given several options to customize your character including class, rank, height and weight. Once you've done this, you can enter the level, and start interacting with other people there!
3. What classes can I go as?
The main classes in the game are Command, Engineer, Science, Security, Medical, and Alien. A special administrative class called Admin is available for
server administrators to come in and help conduct/manage the scenarios, as well as an optional class called Marine. Every class has a base uniform color as well
as its own unique set of weapons/tools to go along with it.
Additionally, anyone who has a basic knowledge of the Q3 Engine can easily make their own classes through the provided scripting system.
4. What ranks are there?
The ranks provided by default are the straight, standard canon ranks as present in the Starfleet of the 24th century. When a rank is chose for a character, the
relevant rank pips are then attached to the charachter's neck, allowing others to easily see which rank you are. To go along with this, there are several sets of uniforms
for each relevant set of ranks.
Additionally, anyone who has a basic knowledge of the Q3 Engine can easily make their own ranks through the provided scripting system.
5. What kind of levels are there?
RPG-X comes complete with several exceptionally detailed levels of various starships of Starfleet, all completely taking advantage of the features of RPG-X.
Beyond that, there is a staggering number of beautifully created third party maps that range from all sorts of various places including alien ships and planets.
These levels can easily be found on a number of file sites, the best for this being Elite Force Files.
6. What other features are there?
Tonnes! The RPG-X mod has gone so far as to completely overhaul some parts of the Q3 engine, the most prominent being the character models, weapons and mapping entities.
The character models have been remade with much more realistic animations and as such they move and interact with the level much more fluidly. This also includes a full emotes system
where players can get their characters to play a full range of gestures.
As for maps, a wide range of new entities have been created to allow for much more interactive levels, including visual effects, transporters and turbolifts.
7. When was RPG-X released?
The first version of RPG-X was released in April, 2005.
The second version of RPG-X was released in September, 2007.
8. Who made Elite Force: RPG-X?
RPG-X was a massive collaboration spearheaded by several members of the {SFEF} clan, and expanded to include myself along with many members of the Elite Force roleplaying community. The disciplines of these people varied greatly from mappers and modelers to programmers and audio artists and they all contributed to this mod's release.
9. Will you make future releases?
Hmm... that's a tricky one. After a good 3 years of development, a lot of the team is simply happy it's over. But don't fret! Once UberGames and this website have been more solidly set up, a couple of us are considering our options. It might take some time, but I doubt RPG-X is forever dead. :)
10. Is there any more information I can get?
There's plenty of information available on the RPG-X web forum. This forum was constantly used as a discussion point during development so a lot of the information there was put up as it was conceived. Alternatively, you can also go to he official RPG-X Wiki for a more organised set of data.
